Guana Bee explores the idea of becoming — One Becomes Another. Eastern legend has it that a carp could swim upstream, leap the waterfall and transform into a dragon, flying off into the sky. In Western culture, since the 1970s, the phrase 'want to be' has been appropriated into 'wannabe'— slang for a person who tries to be like someone else. We want to reclaim the aspiration behind the term. We want to celebrate dreams and desires, individualities and differences. We blur the line between reality and fantasy, self-deprecating and celebratory. If carps could become dragons, iguanas could transform into bees, what would you Guana Bee? In the end, what matters most is the pursuit itself.
